It's a little novel about someone who's burned out on his profession and on life and who becomes re-inspired. It's now in it's 13th printing, all from word-of-mouth. Fifty percent of the proceeds to to a charity in San Francisco.

I listened to Bill at a conference in NC and immediately bought his book. I read it in an evening and loved it. I am a teacher coach and want to be able to ask the tough questions that the custodian was able to ask. We all need to ask ourselves: what are we willing ot do to reach our kids? make learning real? meet them whre they are? and move out of our comfort zones. Every teacher should read this book. Even the best of us get into ruts.

I am a classroom assistant and I was given this book by my principal for staff development. I finished this book in just 1 night. I can relate to Mr. Reaf. I had teachers when I was school that were there just for the paycheck. They taught the same lesson year after year the same way.
One teacher, took the time to get to know his students. That made all the difference in the world.
I want to be one of those teachers!!

I'm just about to start college and I've changed my major many times before. I'm hopping that teaching will be what fits me best. I'm a really shy person and I hate talking in front of large groups, so this might be a challenge. I didn't have the best grades at school most of the time, but I had a lot of fun during it all. I had in my mind that I wanted to be where there was funny people and events that would hopefully make up for my lack thereof. I like this book very much, I was beginning to have doubts about my choice once again and my parents only made it worse because they kept saying that I don't have the personality for it, but after I read your book I felt a lot better. And it even got me thinking about some ideas. . .
THANK YOU!!!!

I am a new teacher. I am currently enrolled in Graduate School and Godwilling will finish a Masteral Degree in English. In one of our subjects, our professor required us to read "Entertaining an Elephant". We didn't have a copy of the book to be exact so what we did is to photocopy it. It wasn't available here in our country, that is why we resorted to other ways. Anyway, I become to love the book while reading and after reading. What I love best are the quotes they are very inspirational. But can you elaborate, sir, about the quote where you got the title? I thought of it why was it titled like that and it evolved from a quote. Please explain the quote further. I will really appreciate it, sir. I hope to get the book "Carrying a Load of Feathers", but as I said the Entertaining an Elephant didn't become available here in our country. How can I get the new book? Thank you.

I read your book in one sitting. It was an "Ode to ye olde Teachers". I couldn't put it down. I also might add that I would never have probably heard of it if it weren't for the lunch we shared with Laurel and Chris at the Thirsty Bear in San Francisco in January 2001. I will definitely recommend this to teachers I know. I cannot wait to read "Carrying a Load of Feathers". Thank you for an enjoyable lunch conversation and an enthralling novel.
